Chronic: GI Disorders

Enteroviruses are a common cause of GI infections

Persistent EV infection has been reported in CFS and FMS patients, and a high percentage of patients have chronic functional GI disorders. This association warrants further investigation

In Houston, Texas 41 stomach biopsies from functional dyspepsia patients were examined for the presence of EV protein. 68% of dyspepsia patients and 32% of patients who reported no dyspepsia had EV protein. Enterovirus was present in 49% of patients who gave stomach biopsy.
